Helvetia 1/2 Marathon 2004

half-marathonThe Helvetia Half Marathon was Saturday, June 19th. It is one on the benchmarks for our Portland Fit marathon training. The race started and finished at the Hillsboro Stadium. There were 9 aid stations along the course. I sustained an injury on June 5th, 3 miles into our 12 mile training run and had to walk back. Shooting pain up into my lower back and down my leg. From what I can tell from my research, I have a tight piriformis muscle that is pressing on my sciatic nerve. So I took 2 weeks off of running & cycling. I did walk, yoga, pilates, weight train. But when i did a 20 min. test run on Thursday, it was still a problem. The sensation before the pain was a hot wet pressure on my right hip. So I expected to walk the half-marathon. I decided to jog what I could until I felt the discomfort but it never came :) I took it really slow and walked up the big hill but finished.
